Ileana Moro
This painting, created during my transition to my apartment in Antwerp in 2023, is deeply rooted in my past. It draws inspiration from a drawing I made in 2019 while in Costa Rica, which is now held by a curator in New York. In this work, I sought to revisit the theme of body language that conveys a sense of heaviness—a weight on the back that reflects a challenging time in my life. My husband and I were navigating a dark period, both feeling down and enveloped in silence, waiting for the storm to pass. The painting captures fragile, unrefined lines that emerge from a place of raw emotion. While simple in form, these lines come together to create a sense of space for healing and recovery. The gentle light, reminiscent of moonlight at midnight, a layer of hope and serenity to the piece.
