Régis Lecœuvre is a contemporary French painter, born in Lille, France. His artistic career developed gradually from a professional background connected to lighting and the illumination of spaces, a field in which he worked for around twenty years. This experience with light later became an important element of his artistic language. He discovered visual art more seriously in 2005, during a trip to Croatia, where he began drawing landscapes, trees and architectural details. Drawing became an important means of observing and recording what he encountered.
He subsequently experimented with different drawing techniques before moving into painting.
During a long stay in Romania, Lecœuvre discovered acrylic painting. He initially used it for portraits and scenes of rural Romanian life, exploring how the same subjects changed under different lighting conditions. He exhibited his work in Bucharest from 2009 and later expanded his practice to include oil painting. His artistic development was also strongly influenced by the landscapes of southwestern France. In the Médoc, he worked from a cabin surrounded by nature, observing the ocean and trees directly. He describes working both in his studio and outdoors, responding to wind, sea spray, atmosphere and changing light. He later established another studio in the Périgord, whose varied landscapes and villages became new sources of inspiration. His current practice focuses particularly on light, material, texture and reflection.
One of his principal bodies of work is the “Reflets” (Reflections) series. In these works, Lecœuvre combines different materials and pronounced marks to create relief and textured surfaces that capture and retain light. The appearance of the works changes according to viewing angle, illumination and the atmosphere of the surrounding space.
